helleborus orientalis

De vorig jaar aangeplante helleborussen staan al vol in de knop.
Ik ben blij dat ze goed aangeslagen zijn.
Het is een hele donkere paarse enkele helleborus, en een witte dubbele.
Ik hoop dat ze gaan kruisen en zo  hele aparte kruisingen voortbrengen.
Ik heb de bladeren alvast afgeknipt, ik hoop dat het niet te vroeg is.

The last year planted hellebores are already having flower buds.
I am glad they like the place i planted them.
I planted a very dark purple single hellebore, and a white double hellebore.
I hope they will get nice offspring.
I already cut the foliage, i hope its not to soon.

het wouda gemaal

Vandaag zijn we heel vroeg opgestaan voor een zondag, namelijk al om 7 uur.
Door de vele regenval is het al een week heel erg hoog water, en om al dat water af te voeren is het Wouda gemaal aangezet.

Het is het grootste nog op stoom werkende gemaal ter wereld en staat daardoor op de UNESCO werelderfgoedlijst.
Het is niet vaak zulk hoog water dat hij aangezet moet worden, en daardoor zijn we naar het hoge noorden (friesland) afgereisd om dit stuk techniek met eigen ogen te bewonderen.

Today we got up very early for a sunday, at 7 o clock.
Because of the many rainfall, the water level in the canals was very high, and to keep our northern province dry, they put the Wouda pumping station in action.

Its the biggest steam operated water pumping station of the world, and because of this its on the UNESCO world heritage list.
It doesnt happen really often that its necessary to get it into action, so we travelled up north to watch this cool piece of technique.

ok het zijn niet de beste foto's maar het was nogal druk en er liepen steeds mensen langs, hierdoor heb ik ze heel snel genomen. In het echt is het natuurlijk veel indrukwekkender.

Ok the pictures arent the best quality but it was a bit crowded and people where walking by often, because of this i had to take the pictures very quick. To watch it "live"is way cooler.

Naast de zonnebloemzaden van mijn vorige post heb ik ook deze zaadjes gescoord, dankzij de verbouwingsuitverkoop van het tuincentrum waren ze 60% goedkoper! 

Het is kamille (lekker voor in de thee), komkommerkruid en maanzaad.

This seeds i also bought at the garden centre, they are renovating and because of that these where on a discount of  60% !

I now have seeds of camomile, Borago and Breadseed.

Ik kijk er al naar uit om ze te zaaien, nog even wachten, het kan al in maart als het dan temminste niet vriest.

De gemengde zonnebloemen zouden zich, volgens het zakje, goed lenen tot het maken van een tijdelijke haag. Wanneer ik van de zomer nog niets heb om de plek te bedekken waar 4 uit de kluiten gewassen coniferen groeiden is een zonnebloemenhaag voor voorlopig wel mooi :).

De buit is zaadjes van: Helianthus Cucumerifolius, Helianthus Ring of Fire en Helianthus Sungold.


I am looking forward to sow these, but i have to wait, in march, thats the earliest month but ofcourse, it also depends on the weather.

The helianthus cucumerifolius plants are, according to the package, great for making a temporary hedge. If i havent found something to cover the spot where 4 waaay too big conifers where growing (in 2011 we finally got rid of them), for this summer a hedge of sunflowers is quite cool . :)
