Aan iedereen een fijn nieuw jaar! Ik was te laat met de kerstwensen op deze blog maar hoop dat iedereen het naar zijn/haar zin gehad heeft! (wij wel in elk geval)

Dat 2012 veel tomaatjes en pepertjes, bloempjes, gezondheid, geluk zon (maar ook regen voor de natuur) en gezelligheid mag brengen!

I wish everyone a happy new year! I was too late with the christmas wishes on this blog, so i hope everybody had a nice christmas also! (We had a wonderful christmas)

I hope 2012 will bring us all many veggies, flowers, sunshine, (and rain cause nature needs it,)  health, good luck, and cosyness!!

zwarte piet/black peter

Tegenwoordig is onze traditie, zwarte piet en sinterklaas in opspraak omdat het racistisch zou zijn.
Dit vind ik erg jammer.

Ons is altijd uitgelegd dat zwarte piet zwart is omdat hij een knecht is die door de schoorstenen moet kruipen om de kadootjes te brengen. Door het roet is hij zwart als roet.
Daardoor geeft hij ook af. :)

Daar is toch niets racistisch aan.

Today our tradition of zwarte piet and sinterklaas not very populair in other countries cause its thought to be racism.
I think this is too bad.

To us was told that zwarte piet (black peter) is black because of the soot. He is a worker who has to climb trough many chimneys to give children their presents, and because of the soot in the chimneys his skin became black.

Every colour skin can be under this soot, so i think, when you explain it this way to children, this tradition isnt racism.

Op 22 december  2011 , draait het jaarwiel en blijft het elke dag langer licht.
Dat mag ook wel, vandaag komt de zon op om 8:46 en gaat hij onder om 16:30.

Is het de eerste of de laatste van het jaar?/ Is it the first or last one of the year?

Ok, het is niet de beste foto, ik heb de foto genomen toen manlief in de auto om me zat te wachten, maar ik heb de eerste sneeuwklok gesignaleerd!!
Het zou wel eens de reginae olgae kunnen zijn die in de herfst hoort te bloeien en ongeveer op die plaats geplant is (al dacht ik dat die iets meer naar links geplant was).
De Reginae Olgae heb ik in het voorjaar van 2009 geplant, en heeft nog niet eerder gebloeid.

Ik ben daar niet zeker van, want Galanthus Regina Olgae bloeit eerst en daarna komt het blad. Bij dit klokje is al (grijzig)blad te zien dus het zou ook de eerste elwesii kunnen zijn.

Hoe dan ook is het voor mij, lentemens altijd een super leuk iets om de eerste sneeuwklok van het jaar te ontdekken, en dan nog wel in eigen tuin !! :).

Ok, it isnt the best photo, i took it when dear husband was waiting for me in the car, but i spotted the first snowdrop!!
It can be the Galanthus Reginae Olgae which i planted in the early spring of 2009. It should flower in late autumn, thats the cool thing about it :)

I am not really sure about it because i thought i planted it a bit more to the left of that spot, and Regina Olgae should flower first and then get its leafs, and i can see grey leafs next to the flower, it also can be a very early Galanthus Elwesii.

 Nevertheless its always great for a spring loving person, to spot the first snowdrop of the year, and this time even in our own garden !! :)

Onze lichtroze kerstcactus (Schlumbergera truncatus) laat zich alweer van een mooi kantje zien .  Behalve de bloemen zit hij ook nog vol in de knop, ik denk dat hij met kerst nog bloeit en zijn naam eer aan gaat doen. 

 Ik heb deze een of twee jaar geleden gekocht toen hij nog vol in de witte knop zat, en heb toen gehoopt op witte bloemen, maar ze werden heel licht roze met felroze stampers, ook een aparte kleur.

Als je twijfelt over deze ouderwetse plant, gewoon kopen of een stekje vragen, het is de makkelijkste plant die ik ooit gehad heb, en je kunt voor vrienden die hem bewonderen, een blaadje afbreken en in een potje steken, dat wordt vanzelf een nieuw plantje. 

Elk jaar vrolijkt hij in de herfst de vensterbank weer op, en daar hoef je niets speciaals voor te doen.

Our soft pink christmas cactus (Schlumbergera truncatus) is showing of its beautiful flowers again. 

Despite of its flowers, it still has lots of buds, so i think it still will be flowering with christmas. 

I bought this one a couple of years ago, it only had white buds and i thought it would be a white flowering cactus.  They are very soft pink, almost white, with a hot pink pestle, which is also a special color to me.


If you doubt about buying this oldfashioned plant, just do it or ask a friend who has this plant, for a cutting.
Its the easiest plant i ever owned, and when friends of you like it, you just break off a leaf and put it in a pot with soil.  This will automaticly become a new plant then.


Every year its cheering up my window sill in autumn and  winter, and its no effort at all.

verrassing/surprie

Tot mijn verassing, zag ik vorige week dat de Clematis aan een tweede bloei begonnen is, de plant heeft een prachtige bloem en een aantal grote knoppen. Heel bijzonder zo eind november!

To my surprise i found out the clematis is flowering for the second time this year, the plant has a beautiful flower and several large buds. Very special at the end of november!

De verbouwingswerkzaamheden zijn nog niet af, maar de spullen (kastjes. granieten blad, en apparaten) zijn al gearriveerd!
De woonkamer staat vol dozen!
Het wordt prachtig, maar is nu nog even afzien!
Het stuccen van de muur is in elk geval af. 

The kitchen renovation is still not finished, but the new cabinets, granite counter and kitchen machines have already arrived!
In the living room, its boxes everywhere you look.
Its becoming really nice in the future, but we arent there yet!
The plastering of the wall is finished now.

rustig / quiet

momenteel zijn we druk bezig met het verbouwen van de keuken, om kosten te besparen doen we zo veel mogelijk zelf, en natuurlijk is het heel fijn als dat zo snel mogelijk af is. (want na een paar weken word je die magnetronmaaltijden wel zat , maar er is niets anders om op te koken momenteel)
Er moet nog van alles gebeuren, de leidingen zijn dit weekend gefreest.


Deze week wordt de keuken geleverd en we moeten nog stuccen. Hierdoor is het een stuk rustiger op hare majesteits tuin.
Om het goed te maken ben ik van plan om als alles af is, een foto te plaatsen van het resultaat!

At the moment we are very buisy renovating the kitchen, to save us money, we are doing as much as possible ourself, and ofcourse it would be really great to finish this job as soon as possible. (cause living on tv dinners is not so much fun after a couple weeks of only having a microwave oven to cook dinner on)
Theres much to do, and we get the kitchen coming week (we are placing it ourselves) and we still need to do the plasterwork on the walls.

To make the quiet period on this blog up, i am planning to place a picture of the new kitchen when everything is finished.

...heeft ook zijn mooie kantjes.
...also has its beautiful sides.

Eindelijk heb ik een physalis plantje ! Ik vind ze prachtig. Na aanschaf las ik dat ze woekeren dus ik heb de bodem uit een grote plastic pot geknipt en de rand van de pot ingegraven en in het midden het plantje gepoot, zo heb ik een wortelbegrenzer zodat ze op de bedoelde plaats blijven.

At last i have got a physalis plant! I love this plant. After buying it i have read that they are invasive, so i cut the bottom out of a large plastic pot and placed it , while planting the little plant, around it. This way i created a boundary for the roots, that they hopefully wont pass.

ik kan het niet laten... / i cant help it

 

Terwijl ik waar ik ook in de voortuin graaf, altijd per ongeluk bloembolletjes opgraaf, kan ik het niet laten om er elk najaar weer wat bij te planten...

De tuin is prachtig in het voorjaar.

Although, wherever i dig in the front yard, i always accidentally dig up some bulbs cause ive planted them everywhere, cant help myself and  buying and planting some some more every autumn.

The garden looks beautiful every spring.

Zelfs als je haast hebt is onze hoofdstad een mooie stad, Amsterdam is een van mijn favoriete steden (samen met Delft, Maastricht Groningen).

ok pictures are taken in a hurry cause i was underway to a bachelorette party of a friend.
Even if you are in a rush, our capital is a very nice and beautiful city, Amsterdam is one of my favorite Dutch cities to visit  (Delft Maastricht and Groningen are also in my list of favorites).

na zo'n zomer, en het vroeg vallen van de herfst, zit ik liever binnen :)
Men heeft een koude winter voorspeld, ik hoop met vorst en zonder sneeuw!

De tuin en groente oogst was dit jaar niet om naar huis over te schrijven, er zijn maar een paar pepers gerijpt, en van de vele planten die ik heb gezaaid en gekregen waren er maar een paar tomaatjes te oogsten, de rest hing rot door alle regen aan de boom.
Door het mooie voorjaar heb ik gelukkig wel van lekker zoete ieniemienie aardbeitjes kunnen genieten.

Gelukkig zijn deze ondeugende beestjes om het binnen blijven gezellig te maken :)

After such a rainy autumny summer and an early autumn, i'll rather stay inside  :)
Weather people have predicted a very cold winter, i hope its only frost and no snow!
The garden and vegetable harvest werent much to enjoy this summer, only a few hot peppers did ripe, and from the many tomato plantst that i have, only a few were harvested. The rest of them where rotting from the never ending rain.
Because of the nice spring i have enjoyed tiny but very tasty strawberries.

I am glad we have this sweet and at the same time mischievous creatures to make staying inside the house a lot nicer :)

maar de eikenbladhortensia wordt steeds mooier.
but the oak-leaf hydrangea is is becoming prettier every day.

Opknapppen

 we hebben eindelijk 4 hele mooie dagen gehad en ze vielen ook nog in een weekend, en toevallig had ik die week vrijdag en maandag vrij. Wat een geluk (want ik had het niet aangevraagd)

Een mooi zomers klusje zo voor de winter is spelen met water met de hogedrukreiniger.
Het paadje is er heel erg van opgeknapt

We finally have gotten 4 days of lovely weather. What a good fortune that they where in the weekend, and what a good luck to have gotten friday and monday off, without having to ask for it (i have one off day every week)

A nice job for a sunny day is playing with water with a high pressure cleaner.
The path to our house looks way better now.

Ik heb ook veel in de zon gezeten met een spannend boek.

Afgelopen week zijn we druk bezig geweest met het weghalen van 4 veel te groot geworden coniferen.
Deze zijn al jaren lang niet meer gesnoeid en ondanks dat ze veel privacy in de voortuin gaven, namen ze ook veel licht weg en ruimte in beslag. Waarschijnlijk zijn ze ooit aangeplant met de intentie van het maken van een heg. Die heg werd 4 meter hoog en anderhalve meter breed.

Hierdoor heb ik 7 vierkante meter extra voortuin.
Heerlijk om nog meer tuinruimte te hebben. Ik ga nu op zoek naar een schapenhekje om toch een mooie grens tussen onze tuin en die van de buren te hebben.

zoals je kan zien heeft het zijn tol wel van de linker tuinhelft geeisd, arme hortensia's, maar dat herstelt wel volgend jaar.
As you can see it took its toll to the left part of the garden, poor hydrangea's, but they will be alright next year. 

Last week we have been buisy clearing up 4 conifers who have become far to big.
Although they gave a lot of privacy, they took too much light and space. 
These trees have not been cut for years and have probably been planted with the intention to grow a hedge. The hedge became 4 metres high and 1,5 metres wide.

Because we cleared them up, we have gotten 7 square metres of extra frontyard.
Its great to have more gardening space, i am looking for what we call a sheep fence, to make a nice border between our garden and the one of our neighbours.

Die heb ik heel vaak leeg moeten gooien, het was de natste zomer sinds 1906!
De somberste in 14 jaar, en zo goed als de hele zomer was het kouder dan gemiddeld.

Het glas is dus voor meer dan de helft vol :)

Wat heeft hare majesteit al die tijd gedaan en waarom was het zo rustig?

Het bezoeken van sprookjeskastelen, sprookjeskasteelruine's met mooie paarse bloempjes en de mooie natuur, tijdens de kampeervakantie met onze vriendengroep.

I had to empty the glass very often, it was the wettest summer since 1906!
It was also the darkest in 14 years and almost every day it was colder then average.
 

So the glass is (almost) full :)

And what did i do all this time of not-blogging:


Visit the fairy-tale castles, and ruins with nice flowers growing on them, and beautiful nature during our little camping trip with some friends in luxembourg.

Daarna hebben we ons huurhuis gekocht..
Ik kan nu lekker in ONZE EIGEN tuin tuinieren :) Ons eerste huis.
Uiteraard is de boel opknappen dan veeeel leuker :)
Een stukje  van de voorheen baby blauwe logeerkamer.
Er komt ook nog een keertje een ander bed in, ik heb mijn oude en veel mooiere eenpersoonsbed nog bij mijn ouders liggen :)
Dat verven heb ik zelf na het werk gedaan.


Volgende klus wordt het plaatsen van een keuken, mijn vriend  man kan dat gelukkig want daar heb ik geen kaas van gegeten :)

Then we bought the house we rented.
Our house and garden is now really really ours :) Its our first own house ever  :)
I think improving your home is waaay nicer to do.. :)
A piece of the formerly baby blue guest room...
I will replace the bed in the future for my old single bed, its still at my parents attic,  it looks better :) 
I did the painting myself and it had to happen after work.

Next improvement project will be placing a new kitchen, i have lots of confidence my boyfriend husband can do it cause i am not that handy. :)

Daarna een hele hoop verjaardagen van vrienden want iedereen heeft maar besloten in de zomer geboren te zijn :)

Dus druk druk druk, maar allemaal heel leuk, het glas is halfvol, ook al is dat vol regen :)
So very buisy summer, full of nice things, and the glass is half full, even when its full of rain :)
